Let's Try This Again-Sunday August 15, 2010 After a disapointing outing in his last where it was discovered that Seguro was suffering from a slight case of the colic, it’s time to make amends this Friday at Arlington Park. Since then, all bloodwork reports have come back clean and Seguro has been burying his head in the feed tub and if his last work is any indication, he looks to be ready to go. After his initial effort on the grass in his last start was more of a learning experience than anything else, Seguro will look to make amends in the eigth race this Thursday at Arlington Park. From the starting gate to the wire it never seemed that Seguro was comfortable while finishing sixth beaten only two lengths at the wire. After continuing to balk at the gate for several minutes, jockey Diego Sanchez needed to dismount before Seguro would even load. After settling at the back of the pack, Seguro made a sustained bid starting in the far-turn and was widest of all entering the top of the stretch. He continued to pick up ground on the leaders but began to veer out to the middle of the track even with a right handed whip by Sanchez. With a fourth place finish in the Springfield Stakes in his last start, Seguro will be headed for the turf this Thursday in a NW1X event for Illinois breds at Arlington Park. There is a full-field of twelve going postward with Seguro breaking from the ten hole with regular rider Diego Sanchez in the irons. After being bumped at the start and spotting the field over fourteen lengths down the backstretch, Seguro was swung wide and picked up momentum to finish fourth beaten only four lengths. Jockey Diego Sanchez said after the race that Seguro seemed a bit lazy and needed extra urging to get in the race. He came back to the barn in good shape. Springfield Stakes Next Up For Seguro-Wednesday June 16, 2010Seguro is set to make his next start in the $100,000 Springfield Stakes this Saturday at Arlington Park. A field of nine will be going postward in the Springfield which is an Illinois restricted event contested at the mile distance over the poly-track surface. This will be Seguro’s first race on lasix after finishing second by four lengths on May 13th at Hawthorne Racecourse. Seguro has been training well and will be breaking from post six with regular Diego Sanchez in the irons. Prairie Festival Day consists of a total of six stakes races with the Springfield scheduled as the last race of the day with a post-time of 6:15. Seguro Finishes Second-Thursday May 13, 2010Seguro put in a good effort for his first race on poly-track as he finished second beaten four lengths Thursday afternoon at Arlington Park. He was a bit rambunctious on the way to the paddock as this was his first time going over in the afternoon at Arlington..the experience will only help him for future races. After breaking well, Seguro settled behind the first flight and was moved to the outside at the top of the stretch where it looked as though he was going to go on and win for fun. He seemed to hang a bit down the lane and did not show his usual strong finish that we had come accustomed to. After being scoped, a small trace of blood and mucus was found which explains the reason for him not finishing as well as he had in the past. Even with the bleeding, Seguro was still best of the rest with the winner having things his own way on a speed favoring track. Seguro will be making his next start in Thursday’s eigth race at Arlington Park. The race is a NW1X IL-bred allowance with a full field of twelve going six and a half furlongs on the poly-track. This will be Seguro’s first start on the poly but has been training well in his morning sessions and if all goes well, the race should set him up nicely for the 100,000 Springfield Stakes on June 19th at Arlington. Seguro Second In Land of Lincoln Stakes-Sunday April 25, 2010With a long sustained bid which started in the far-turn, Seguro finished a fast closing second beaten only three quarters of a length in the 100K Land of Lincoln Stakes on Saturday at Hawthorne Racecourse. The Land of Lincoln was the deepest field in regards to talent on the day that show-cased Illinois breds with a total of seven stakes. After breaking alertly, Seguro settled behind the abundance of logical speed horses and was swung wide by jockey Diego Sanchez for his run that fell just short. “With a couple more jumps we would have won it, we just ran out of ground,” said Sanchez after the race. I waited at the barn as Seguro was sent to the spit box and as the almost black looking colt rounded the corner, he was carrying himself well and came back in good shape. We will ship to Arlington on Monday with his next race in May and the Springfield Stakes in June as our near-term goal. Seguro In Land of Lincoln Stakes-Tuesday April 20, 2010Seguro is set to test the waters of stakes competition when he takes on eight other three year old colts and geldings in the $100,000 Land of Lincoln Stakes this Saturday at Hawthorne Racecourse. This is a very competitive group as the race came up much tougher than anticipated. Seguro has been training well and if he moves forward, should make a good account of himself against some nice horses. He will also have the services of jockey Diego Sanchez who has ridden Seguro in his two starts and has been on his back for all of his morning work-outs. The distance of six furlongs might be a bit short as we feel he will only get better as the distances stretch out. The old-saying applies aptly here that “when they’re doing good, run’em”. The race is scheduled as the tenth on the Saturday Illinois stakes day with a post-time of 5:56 p.m. for the Land of Lincoln. |
