Lampoon Not In Foal-Monday July 7, 2008 In regards to Lampoon, we were looking for a stallion that we hoped in two years would become attractive to buyers as a yearling. Strong Hope with his breeding, race record and early interest in his foals was one that we thought would give us a good chance to make that happen. We had no indication that he may not be a robust stallion in regards to breeding and the thought early on was that it may have been Lampoon largely due to the fact that we kind of had a smaller window to breed her after coming off the track. It is normal practice to give the mares that come directly off the racetrack a few months of cycles before trying to get them in foal as it gives them the best chance to become pregnant. This was the reasoning on going back to Strong Hope more than twice as we felt that we may have rushed her a bit. If Lampoon is bred this late in the year, you would then have a late foal for next year and then another one the following year in which then you would lose most of the pinhooker’s interest as a majority of the big money players pass on the May/June yearlings. After a five furlong work last Monday, Lampoon showed some filling in her left front ankle which led to her scratch in the Fall City Handicap on Thanksgiving Day at Churchill Downs. This is the same ankle that she had a little problem with earlier in the year at Arlington. The leg tightens down and shows no heat normally after a day of walking. Lampoon will get a light blister on the leg and walk the shed-row for the next thirty days or so before begining to gear-up for an early spring campaign. We are looking for perhaps an overnight handicap to open the year in the hopes of setting her up for the Sixty Sails or Illinois Stakes Day in April. Lampoon Entered In Fall City-Sunday November 18, 2007WIth the likes of Tessa Blue, Panty Raid and High Heels in the mix, it was more than likely they would scare off a few fillies and mares from the Grade II $300,000 Fall City Handicap. A field of seven are set to go postward on Thankgiving Day at Churchill Downs with Lampoon coming off her most recent and visually impresive win in the Illini Princess Handicap on November 3rd at Hawthorne Racecourse. This will be her first step into graded stakes company while breaking from post position five and will be reunited with jockey Larry Sterling. The Fall City is slated as the eleventh race on the card. Lampoon Reigns In Illini Princess-Saturday November 3, 2007Lampoon put everything together at Hawthorne Racecourse Saturday afternoon by winning the Illini Princess Handicap by four lengths. With new rider Israel Campo in the irons, Lampoon broke like a shot from the gate and settled about three lengths behind the pacesetters. While biding her time down on the rail for most of the race, Campo had horse underneath him but was caught behind horses for the stretch drive. When a hole opened up, Lampoon moved aggressively through it, pricked her ears and galloped home to win by four lengths. It was nice to see Lampoon use that burst of speed which is something we haven’t seen very often from her, she is more of a one run horse. With the Illini Princess’ winner share of $52,026, Lampoon boosted her lifetime earnings to just over $230,000 with four wins, nine seconds and four thirds from twenty five starts. Below is from the DRF. By Marcus Hirsch Princess: Lampoon overcomes rep Lampoon ($17.20) shed her bridesmaid tag in the $91,275 Illini Princess Handicap, drawing off to a four-length win over Stop a Train. Second nine times with only three wins entering Saturday’s action, Lampoon got a perfect trip under Israel Ocampo, who won his second stakes of the day. Tuffted set the early pace, pressed by Tour d’Aura, while Stop a Train raced two to three paths wide, and Dyna Slam even farther out in the track. Ocampo, meanwhile, hugged the rail with Lampoon, came through a narrow hole at the quarter pole, and easily outfinished Stop a Train, who held a clear second over Boudoir, the tepid favorite. Below is from Hawthorne news: Illini Princess Handicap Israel Ocampo scored his second stakes win of the day with Lampoon in the Illini Princess. Favored Boudoir loomed in the stretch but drifted out and had to settle for third, while Stop a Train, unable to withstand the winner’s rally clearly held second, four lengths behind the runaway Lampoon. Lampoon broke well but settled behind Tuffted who set the early fractions. As Tufted tired at the top of the stretch things got a little dicey for the eventual winner as Ocampo explained. “When we were turning for home, I really thought I got her stuck,” said a relieved Ocampo. “But, we got through and she just kept going.” The four year old daughter of Distorted Humor ran the mile and one sixteenths in 1:45.83 and is owned by Nancy Vanier and Cartwright Thoroughbreds. Brian Williamson is the trainer. Lampoon paid $17.20, $8.80, and $5.80. Stop A Train returned $5.60 and $4.00. Boudoir paid $3.60 to show. Lampoon Runs Well In Tough Indian Maid-Sunday September 30, 2007Lampoon finished seventh beaten just over five lengths in the Indian Maid Handicap which came up as a very competitive race with a full-field of twelve. The race included the likes of Jennie R who with her front running style set a new stakes record with her win for a mile and a sixteenth on the turf. Lampoon broke alertly after just over a month from the races in which time trainer Brian Williamson was keeping a close eye on her left front, which was showing some filling. She stalked the leader’s from the outset and put in a determined run along the fence when asked by jockey Quinonez. Jennie R finished four and half lengths in front with a blanket finish of six horses seperated by a half a length for the runner-up spots which included Lampoon. Lampoon In Indian Maid-Wednesday September 26, 2007Lampoon will be making her next start in this Saturday’s $100,00 Indian Maid Handicap at Hawthorne Racecourse. The race is the ninth on the card and will be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course. There is a full field of twelve going postward with Lampoon breaking from post number one. Lampoon Finishes Fifth-Friday August 24, 2007With the recent rainstorms in the area, all races at Arlington Park that were scheduled for the turf were run on the polytrack Friday afternoon. That left Lampoon on the polytrack instead of the turf in which she broke well and stalked the early pace under a hold from jockey Jamie Theriot. She made a move towards the leaders just before the turn for home when a couple of horses loomed to her outside and Lampoon drifted in and was checked slightly. Any momentum that she had was lost and had to regroup to finish fifth beaten some six lengths. She came back to the barn in good shape and we will continue to try and get her on the turf for her next start. Lampoon On The Turf For Friday-Monday August 20, 2007Lampoon is set to make her next start this Friday in the tenth race at Arlington Park. The race is scheduled for the about a mile and a sixteenth distance on the turf with a field of eleven going postward. Jockey Jamie Theriot will have the mount. Lampoon has trained well since returning to Artlington after her third place finish in the Bungalow Stakes at downstate Fairmount Park. The Bungalow was run on a conventional dirt track and returning Lampoon back to the grass, in which she has shown a liking, should help her. The open allowance race on Friday should set her up for the $100,000 Ada L Rice Stakes that will be run on the turf September 15th at Arlington Park. Lampoon Third In Bungalow-Wednesday August 1, 2007Lampoon finished third beaten just under four lengths Tuesday afternoon in the Bungalow Stakes at Fairmount Park. The race unfolded with Lampoon racing at the back of the pack before swinging out to the middle of the track at the top of the stretch. She was making up some ground on the leaders before the wire but fell short after spotting the field some eight lengths down the backside. We will be trying to get her back on the turf for her next start. Lampoon To Go In Bungalow Handicap-Monday July 30, 2007Lampoon is set to break from post position six in the Bungalow Handicap on Tuesday at Fairmount Park. The race will be run at a mile and seventy yards on the main track. Lampoon is set at 2-1 on the morning line with the Bungalow scheduled as the seventh race on the card. Jockey Larry Sterling will make the trip downstate for the race. We are trying for a black-type win for Lampoon’s resume, albeit this not being our favorite spot for her, she will be competitive with this group where she has shown ability on the dirt course as well as the turf. |
